Definitions -- Rafanelli Law
1. GUARDIAN AD LITEM: Latin for "guardian at law." This is a person appointed by the court to look out for the best interests of the child during the course of legal proceedings.
Guardian Ad Litem is an important role that Kerry Rafanelli has provided to many Rhode Island (RI) children.
2. Mediation: A method of alternative dispute resolution in which a neutral third party helps to resolve a dispute. The mediator does not have the power to impose a decision on the parties. If a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached, the parties can pursue a lawsuit.
Rafanelli Law specializes in divorce mediation for Rhode Island (RI) and Massachusetts (MA) couples and families who may be contemplating separation or divorce.
3. PROBATE: The legal process in which a court oversees the distribution of property left in a will.
4. Marital Settlement: A marital settlement agreement specifies the terms of a divorce as well as the relationship between the two spouses after a divorce.
